Da Bomb Beyond Insanity Review

“Da Bomb,” a version of “The Bomb,” may refer to a nuclear weapon, ala the atomic bomb, or to an English language idiom to characterize something as awesome (for example, “did you see the concert last night?  It was ‘da bomb!’” Unfortunately for everyone involved, this hot sauce’s flavors embodied more of the former definition and contained no trace of the latter.

From the moment that I held the small glass bottle that houses Da Bomb Beyond Insanity in my hot little hand, I was wary.  Reminiscent of the bottle that Alice discovers labeled “Drink Me” in Lewis Carroll’s “Alice in Wonderland,” I had an inkling that this hot sauce was going to either make me immediately smaller (as a direct result of shedding layers of clothes due to Da Bomb’s heat index), or swiftly grow larger (as my tongue swelled with spice/heat).  But which would it be? Red Savina Habanero Chili Pepper

Relatively new on the pepper trail, in the last 20 years or so,  is the Red Savina pepper.  It was cultivated off the habanero chili pepper and is known to be an extremely hot pepper registering up to approximately 570,000 on the Scoville scale in some tests although some tests have it coming in at the mid 200,000’s and up.  It was the reigning champ for many years as the hottest pepper, but has been knocked off the list in the past few years by other super-hot peppers like the Naga Jolokia.

The Bhut Jolokia Chili Pepper (a.k.a. Ghost Pepper, Naga Jolokia, Cobra Pepper, etc.) is the hottest in the world!

What are the World’s Hottest Peppers?

What are the hottest peppers and how is it determined which one is the hottest? A method of testing peppers is called the Scoville test. This method of testing a pepper’s pungency units was invented by Wilbur Scoville in 1912. Mr. Scoville determined his test results by taking the extracts of many types of chili peppers and diluting them in a sugared water solution until none of the heat remained. The testing was accomplished by a panel of 5 “judges” who would taste these solutions and then tell Mr. Scoville when they no longer felt any heat. This testing was very subjective as your can imagine and results were not very consistent. The hottest peppers, such as habaneros, have a rating of 300,000 or more, indicating that their extract has to be diluted 300,000-fold before the capsaicin present is unnoticeable.
