Spicy and Salty Hot Pepper Pretzels

Many of us have certain cravings during the day.  Some may be sweet; some may be salty.  Many of our hot sauce lovers have spicy cravings.  Well, if you are looking for a spicy and salty snack to curb your snack cravings, here is a really easy to prepare recipe for all of you pepper lovers out there.  I think you will enjoy it!

Spicy and Salty Hot Pepper Pretzels

  • 6-7 ounce bag of mini or waffle shaped salted pretzels
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 teaspoons salt-free soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

Melt the butter in your microwave on low-medium power and then pour it into a large mixing bowl. Gently stir in the pretzels to coat them with the melted butter. Spread them onto a baking sheet that is lined with a non-stick silicone baking mat and bake in a 325 degree oven for 5 minutes (or until you notice they are nice and dry). Remove the baking sheet from the oven and set aside. Combine together the soy sauce, dried cayenne pepper and garlic powder and then sprinkle this mixture on top of the baked pretzels. Place the baking sheet back into the oven and bake for 4-5 additional minutes.

Note: You can use full-size sourdough hard pretzels if you break them up into chunks.

This is a crowd pleaser for sure and if you like more heat or spice, try using a bit of chipotle pepper to bring in a smokier flavor.  You can also experiment with using a spicy habanero dipping sauce too.  There are several great ones that would taste good with these.

Another thought would be to add some different specialty salts to these before they bake for an additional salt taste.  Enjoy satisfying your craving!

These sound amazing. Kind of like a specialized Chex Mix without the Chex. :)

I would suggest parchment paper if you don’t have a silicone mat.

This is going on my to-do list!
