Smoked Pepper Hot Sauce Recipe

Hot Peppers and smoky flavors seem to go hand in hand and yet it is sometime difficult to find a good smoked pepper hot sauce.  The smoke pepper flavor is delicious in soups and stews and even in salsa too.  Here is an easy recipe that you can bring together quickly for your next Mexican or Tex Mex dish.

Smoked Pepper Hot Sauce Recipe

Part 1
4 small Habanero peppers, finely chopped and seeds/membranes removed
1/2 cup onions, finely chopped
1 tablespoon olive or vegetable oil

Place the above 3 ingredients into a container and roast on your barbecue or indoor grill or place the above 3 ingredients into a saute pan and simmer over low-medium heat for 5 minutes. Remove and set aside.

Part 2
2 (15 oz.) cans tomato sauce
1 can of Chipotle Peppers in Adobo Sauce if available –OR- 2 teaspoons Chipotle powder
3-4 teaspoons dried chili powder
1 1/2 teaspoons crushed red pepper flakes
1/2 teaspoon ground paprika
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 tablespoon olive oil

In a large saucepan combine the above ingredients and simmer over medium-high heat for 5 minutes. Pour mixture #1 into the saucepan and reduce heat to medium and simmer for an additional 5 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool for 10 minutes. Pour mixture into a large blending container and process on medium speed for 1 minute or until all ingredients are well combined and smooth. Your sauce is now ready for whatever recipe you intend on using it in.
