Peach Bourbon BBQ Sauce Recipe

Leave it to our southern relatives to find a way to incorporate peaches and bourbon into a BBQ recipe. The delicious flavors combined make an amazing taste that is enhanced by each other.  The fruitiness of the peach and the rich, mellow flavor of the bourbon are lovely together.

There are plenty of recipes out for this wonderful combination and several famous chefs and restaurants have variations of this recipe that they love to work with.  This particular recipe is great with fish, seafood, chicken and pork dishes. If you want a bit of heat, you can add a pinch of cayenne or a few dashes of your favorite hot sauce.

Peach Bourbon BBQ Sauce Recipe

1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 cup onion, finely chopped
3-1/2 cups peeled, diced peaches or frozen
4-5 tablespoons bourbon
2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
2 tablespoons ketchup
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper

In a large saucepan combined together the vegetable oil and the finely chopped onion. Simmer over medium-high heat for 3-4 minutes. Stir in the rest of the ingredients, one at a time and stirring after each addition. Turn the heat down to medium and simmer for 15-18 minutes, stirring often to prevent sticking.

Use your sauce immediately or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.

*Note – if you are using frozen peaches, you may want to blend them first so they will combine easier with the other ingredients.
