Marie Sharp’s Habanero Pepper Sauce Review

I’m in Love. Kiss me Marie. Kiss me again. And again. And again.  The last words of the descriptive on her Marie Sharp’s Habanero Pepper Sauce bottle says it all: “She has Succeeded”. Why? Because she does it the right way. In a small operation in some obscure yet fertile valley in Belize. This is Carib Sauce at it’s finest.

Full disclosure: I cut my hot-sauce teeth on the home-made, wild-and-crazy hot sauces of the islands in the Caribbean Sea. I once had a collection of 30. All colors, all presented in things like cough syrup and ketchup bottles. The “Evil Yellow” from Grenada in a Gordon’s Gin bottle (no shit).  The thing that made these sauces wholly unique was the geographic separation of the brewers and a strong ethic to produce THEIR product. Even if quality control was dubious – you could count on them for “that which they made.”

My Sweet Lady Marie makes no outrageous claims on the Marie Sharp’s Habanero Pepper Sauce bottle. Rather the text is understated. She says: “fiery hot”. Which is true. This is based on a habanero that she has been cultivating for years. The claim that this may be the hottest “variety” of habanero known to man is open to discussion. If you care to challenge you better come well-armed. But this sauce is not blazing – below 4 on my heat scale. It is however, addicting. Why? “Select habaneras, Fresh carrots, Onions, Lime juice, and Garlic”. These are all nicely depicted on the label – such that you can identify them all clearly. And there are chunks of this stuff in the mix!

One sniff test and I was instantly back in a iron market somewhere in the Antilles. I dipped a chip. I ate and ate. Quite simply this is the way to make hot sauce. Use the fresh products at hand and use them wisely. I was surprised to see a commercial hot sauce come out of the Carib in a 5-oz container but with it’s roots firmly in place. American palettes are generally not used to such fine blending. And that’s another important point. This stuff is durable. You will not wear yourself out on it. It will not fade as time goes on. It is a lasting product, a daily driver for sure. Hell, I’d even try this on ice cream.

The subtitle under Sweet Marie’s name says; “Proud Product of Belize.” God knows Belize has few products to offer the world. We can all be thankful that Marie knows what the hell she is doing and offers her art to all of us.

What else can I say? Go buy a case of this Marie Sharp’s Habanero Pepper Sauce stuff. NOW!
