Green Hot Sauce Recipe

There are many areas in Mexico and especially New Mexico that use a green tomato base recipe for their hot sauce.  These green hot sauce recipes are delicious as they are full of flavor and very fresh tasting.  Here is an easy to prepare green sauce recipe that you can whip up using tomatillos that should be available readily in your local grocery store.

You will need 1 1/2 lbs. Tomatillos that have been roasted in the oven or boiled in water on stove top before proceeding with the rest of the recipe.

Green Hot Sauce Recipe

1 1/2 lbs. Tomatillos, roasted or boiled
1/2 cup onion, finely chopped or diced
1/2 cup fresh Cilantro, finely chopped
1 1/2 tablespoons fresh lime juice (not bottled)
1 to 1 1/2 teaspoons granulated sugar
2 Jalapeno peppers, stems & seeds removed, finely chopped
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper

In a large blender container or food processor, combine together all of the above ingredients, including the roasted or boiled Tomatillos. Cover and process for 1-2 minutes or until mixture is well blended together. It should be a smooth but thick consistency. Keep the lid on the blender container and place into the refrigerator for 4-6 hours to allow it to chill and for the flavors to infuse. Serve as a condiment or dipping sauce with your favorite dippers
