Georgia Peach & Vidalia Onion Hot Sauce Review

Here’s a tasty little number that foregoes the typical odd or frightening name in favor of promoting its key ingredients – what my old high school English teacher used to call “putting the meat in the window.” In other words, whatever you have to say, say it clearly so people can understand it. I’ll try to hew to those words of wisdom in this review.

Georgia Peach & Vidalia Onion Hot Sauce is a sweet and sassy sauce that marries two of Georgia’s most prized agricultural exports: peaches and Vidalia onions. The wedding party also includes red chili puree, jalapeno peppers, cayenne pepper, and tomatoes. Cane sugar is added for extra sweetness, which seems hardly necessary considering the peach flavor is strong and the sweet onions also help to cut the peppers. And yet because this sauce is so sweet, I found it useful in ways other hot sauces aren’t.

For while I wolfed down a plate of fried chicken fingers using Georgia Peach & Vidalia Onion Hot Sauce as a dipping sauce, I also used it on its own as a glaze for roasted chicken. Its fruitiness would make it a fine glaze for baked ham as well. If you’re looking for pure heat, you’ll probably want to supplement with another sauce formulated for a fiery flavor, but if you want a sweet, fruity concoction with a bit of tang and thickness to use as a condiment, grill sauce, or basting sauce, Georgia Peach & Vidalia Onion Hot Sauce offers lip-licking enjoyment.

The label features an illustration of a comely redhead sitting in a field of flowers with a come hither look, as well as a blue ribbon icon that indicates the sauce has won a number of awards in national and international competitions, but the names of those competitions are not included (nor is the name of the model for the illustration offered, unfortunately).

Ultimately, I would consider Georgia Peach & Vidalia Onion Hot Sauce an immensely flavorful specialty sauce rather than a hot sauce per se. It does have some heat but the overall sweetness and fruity flavor make it less about burning your tongue than about tantalizing your taste buds. Regardless, it’s absolutely delicious and therefore hard not to recommend.
