There has been a lot of interest in homemade BBQ sauces of late and the history of making barbeque sauce with a dark soda pop have been around for years. The Dr. Pepper™, of course, has a unique flavor all its own so the use of that in a BBQ sauce really takes the flavor to another level. Another good choice would be rootbeer if you do not have Dr. Pepper™ around.
Some of the recipes for this call for about 12 different ingredients which is great for when you have time to make that. Here is a great recipe for those of you who want a quick and easy BBQ sauce recipe that you can make and use quickly.

Dr. Pepper BBQ Sauce Recipe

(1) 28 oz. bottle Sweet Baby Ray’s Original BBQ Sauce™
(1) 12 oz. bottle Dr. Pepper ™ Cherry Flavored Soda
2 Tablespoons light brown sugar

In a large saucepan combine all 3 of the above ingredients together. Simmer mixture over medium heat for 7 minutes, stirring often. Let the sauce cool and then pour it into a glass jar with a lid. Store it in your refrigerator for up to 1 week. This is a great marinating and/or dipping sauce.

Try this on pork lions, pork chops or ribs and chicken for a great taste! If you like it spicy, you can add some Ancho Chile Powder to it for that smoky heat. Also look for Bottled Dr. Pepper Barbeque sauces that are available in select retailers. Enjoy!

For an interesting taste explosion of sweet and spicy flavor, you have to try this recipe. The spicy heat of the pepper, along with the sweetness of the chocolate, is fabulous to begin with and then when you add in the peanut butter, your mouth will go WOW! What a treat for your senses! Here is how to make it.

For this recipe, it is easier use Baker’s ™ milk or dark chocolate disks for our chocolate. They come in a container and you can microwave the disks of chocolate right in the container according to the manufacturer’s instructions (on the package).

Chocolate Dipped Peanut Butter Filled Jalapeno’s Recipe

6 large Jalapeno peppers (wash & dried)
Smooth Peanut Butter
1 Container Baker’s Chocolate Disks (see above)
Tongs and Waxed Paper

Cut the tops off of your Jalapeno peppers and remove the insides (membranes & seeds). Use a narrow baby feeding spoon to pack the smooth, creamy peanut butter down inside of the Jalapeno pepper.

Melt the Baker’s Chocolate according to package directions. Use the tongs to dip the Jalapeno peppers into the melted chocolate coating them on all sides. Hold each Jalapeno pepper above the container and let the excess chocolate run back into the container. Once the chocolate is done dripping, lay them on their sides on a baking sheet covered with waxed paper. Let them cool to firm up or place the tray into the refrigerator to speed up the process. Store them in an airtight container. Enjoy!

Variations: You can use chunky style peanut butter and if you want a fruity taste added to them put a little bit of your favorite jam down inside the Jalapeno with the peanut butter.

When there is a nip in the air or money is tight, soup is a great addition to your dinner table. This Pablano Chili Pepper Soup has nice warmth to it from the chile’s but it is not overly spicy. This is a great soup recipe for when you want to serve something a little different to your family or guests and it perfect for an appetizer or as a main course with salad and tortilla’s too. This recipe will feed 6-8 people.

Pablano Chili Pepper Soup Recipe

8 ounces poblano chilies, seeded
1 cup onions, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoons butter, softened
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
4 cups chicken flavored stock
1 teaspoon ground chipotle

If you have dried Pablano chiles aka Ancho chile, then redydrate them before moving on.
Place Poblano chilies, onions and garlic into a blender container and process for 30 seconds or until everything is chopped & blended together. In a large saucepan heat up the butter and put the mixture you just blended into the saucepan and saute for 5 minutes or until vegetables are tender. Stir in the all-purpose flour and saute for 2 minutes. Pour in the chicken stock and teaspoon of ground chipotle. Cover the saucepan and simmer the soup for 10 minutes. Remove from heat and season with salt and ground black pepper if desired. Garnish with sour cream and cilantro, optionally. Delicious!

There is a definite flavor trend with the sweet hot taste when it comes to barbeque sauces. Most either love it or hate it, but for those of you the love it, here is a delicious fruit based Raspberry Chipotle BBQ Sauce recipe that you can enjoy on your favorite chicken or pork dishes that will really make them pop!

This sauce is very sweet but it also packs some lovely heat. It is great as a barbecue sauce on your favorite meats or you can use it as a dipping sauce on the side. It might even go great as a marinade too. Need to try that one!

Raspberry Chipotle BBQ Sauce

1 1/4 tablespoons light Olive Oil
1/4 cup finely chopped onion
1 teaspoon garlic, minced
1 chili pepper, finely chopped
1 teaspoon Ground Chipotle -or as desired
2 pints red raspberries
1/2 cup raspberry vinegar
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup granulated sugar

In a large saucepan combine the olive oil with the chopped onion, minced garlic, chipotle and chopped chili pepper. Bring up to temperature and saute over medium heat until caramelized. Stir in the fresh raspberries, raspberry vinegar, salt and the granulated sugar. Bring the sauce up to a boil and then reduce heat to medium. Cover and simmer for 5-7 minutes or until sauce is cooked and slightly thickened.

Hot Dogs are one of America’s favorite foods and it seems you will find American’s enjoying all kinds of tasty gourmet condiments on them. Today we are sharing a recipe with you on how to make New York style Onion Sauce which is a favorite hot dog topping with New Yorker’s. This one adds at bit of chili powder and hot pepper sauce for that kick you love! This is not a meat sauce which is enjoyed in other parts of the country.

Hot Dog Onion Sauce Recipe

2 tablespoons olive or vegetable oil
2 medium onions, finely chopped
1/4 cup catsup
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
2-3 drops of hot pepper sauce (depends on how hot you want it)
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup water

In a medium sized saucepan saute the onions in the oil until the onions are translucent (about 5 minutes). Stir in the rest of the ingredients in the order they are given in the recipe, stirring after each addition. Reduce heat and simmer sauce over medium heat for 10-12 minutes or until done. Use sauce as a hot dog condiment.

Tip: You can refrigerate any leftovers for up to one week. Warm up the sauce in your microwave when needed.

Next time you are in the mood for a dog, try this Onion Sauce. It whips up easily and will add a whole new level to your hot dog!

Famous Dave’s Wilbur’s Revenge Hot Sauce is a popular name brand hot sauce that most hot pepper sauce aficionados love. This hot sauce prides itself on being hot, spicy and very flavorful and many people state that they love the very peppery taste that is evident in this sauce. The flavor of this hot sauce is stated to be “unique” as compared to many of the hot sauces out in the marketplace as it focuses on the flavors of the pepper not on the Heat.

The Famous Dave’s Wilbur’s Revenge Hot Sauce starts as with their BBQ sauce as a base and then mustard, molasses and other goodness are added. The Habanero pepper is used in their blend. This hot sauce that is said to be one of the hottest sauces out in the marketplace that is readily available across the nation, but it is only considered to be a Medium-High Heat Level sauce. I am thinking that there may be hotter ones available nationwide… what do you think?

This is a great hot sauce for grilled or baked buffalo wings and as a dipping sauce for your BBQ ribs. Maybe as an addition to your slow-cooked homemade chili recipe. It sounds like it is something good to try out. If you have tried it, let us know your thoughts.

Hot Peppers and smoky flavors seem to go hand in hand and yet it is sometime difficult to find a good smoked pepper hot sauce. The smoke pepper flavor is delicious in soups and stews and even in salsa too. Here is an easy recipe that you can bring together quickly for your next Mexican or Tex Mex dish.

Smoked Pepper Hot Sauce Recipe

Part 1
4 small Habanero peppers, finely chopped and seeds/membranes removed
1/2 cup onions, finely chopped
1 tablespoon olive or vegetable oil

Place the above 3 ingredients into a container and roast on your barbecue or indoor grill or place the above 3 ingredients into a saute pan and simmer over low-medium heat for 5 minutes. Remove and set aside.

Part 2
2 (15 oz.) cans tomato sauce
1 can of Chipotle Peppers in Adobo Sauce if available –OR- 2 teaspoons Chipotle powder
3-4 teaspoons dried chili powder
1 1/2 teaspoons crushed red pepper flakes
1/2 teaspoon ground paprika
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 tablespoon olive oil

In a large saucepan combine the above ingredients and simmer over medium-high heat for 5 minutes. Pour mixture #1 into the saucepan and reduce heat to medium and simmer for an additional 5 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool for 10 minutes. Pour mixture into a large blending container and process on medium speed for 1 minute or until all ingredients are well combined and smooth. Your sauce is now ready for whatever recipe you intend on using it in.

We get a lot of requests asking about Ghost Pepper Sauce; what is it, how do I use it, etc. So we thought we would share some general information with you so you can be in the know on this extremely popular sauce.

Ghost pepper sauce contains the popular Bhut Jolokia Pepper which is also known as the Ghost Pepper. This pepper is considered to be the hottest of the naturally grown peppers. The Scoville rating for the Bhut Jolokia is 855,000-1,050,000 which puts it about 300 times hotter than a Jalapeno pepper.

This pepper is typically used as an ingredient in condiments, salsas, sauces and as a spice in a ground form. It is very popular in Indian Cuisine. When you want a hot pepper sauce that packs a serious punch then this is one of the sauces you should use. Here at Insane Chicken we carry several sauces that are Ghost Pepper Sauces from some of the most popular brands in hot sauce world.

Using a pepper sauce like the Ghost Pepper is easy. When cooking with a Ghost Pepper Hot Sauce try a few drops in your favorite breakfast casserole or egg omelet to really heat things up at breakfast time. If you love meatloaf and/or chili, try a tablespoon or two in your favorite meatloaf or chili recipe. If you are really daring, you can use it as a condiment with your favorite buffalo wings but keep the beer and milk flowing!

With so many varieties of BBQ sauces on the market it can be hard to find one that is just perfect! Many people love the sweet sauces that work so well with ribs and chicken but may not find just the right amount of sweetness in a prepared commercial sauce. We have a tip to save this issue as well as a great recipe that you can customize to make your own.

Tip: When you don’t have time to make your own recipe, you can use a bottle of a classic barbecue sauce from Insane Chicken or the grocery store and sweeten it up with a few tablespoons of brown sugar. If you prefer, you can add some honey to it. Choose one of the ingredients and add a bit at a time until it is sweetened to your liking.

When you do have the time, here is a great recipe that is easy to prepare and delicious! You can tweak it until it is to your sweetness level.

Homemade Sweet BBQ Sauce Recipe
1 cup catsup
1/4 cup white vinegar
1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
2-3 teaspoons brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
2 tablespoons finely diced onions

In a large saucepan bring the vegetable oil up to a hot temperature and stir in the finely diced onions. Simmer for 2 minutes, stirring continually. Add in the rest of the ingredients and simmer over medium heat for 10-13 minutes. Your sauce is now ready for use.
