Enjoying Your Peppers with a Bit of Chocolate

I know this may sound weird from the title but chocolate and peppers have enjoyed a long history.  Here are several ways that chocolate and peppers have been blended together for delicious treats.  Maybe there are a few you would enjoy.

Jalapeno’s: These are peppers are great when drizzled with melted dark, milk or white chocolate. For a really spicy sweet treat, drizzle all three chocolates around all sides of the jalapeno and let them cool down to set. Once cool, store them in an airtight container.

Sweet Green & Red Bell Peppers: Slice these peppers into rings or semi-thick strips. Melt some dark or milk chocolate in a dish (microwave), double boiler (stove top) or use a fondue pot and then dip half of the rings or strips into the chocolate using tongs. Hold the pepper over the pot and let the melted chocolate run back into the pot and then lay them on parchment paper to dry. Store in an airtight container.

Banana Peppers:  Cut off the stem and slice them in half or into quarters. Remove all seeds and discard them. Once the preparation is done, try drizzling your favorite chocolate on them or dip the sections 1/2 way down into melted chocolate (as explained above). Let them cool to allow the chocolate to set and then store in an airtight container.

Mole:  This is a traditional Mexican sauce that has a long history.  The Mole has many flavors and ingredients but the one common ingredient is chili peppers.  Recipes are different depending on the region you are from and they can have between 20 and 30 unique spices that make up the sauce. Today’s recipes include chocolate as a flavor enhancer.

Hot Chocolate: Traditionally, hot chocolate started as a mixture of ground cocoa beans, peppers and water.  As you know it has changed a bit more over time.  Every region and country makes it a bit different.  Try adding a bit of ground chipotle pepper to your next cup of hot chocolate.  It will blow you away.
