Dave’s Gourmet Badlands Barbeque Sauce Review
Dave’s Gourmet Badlands Barbeque Sauce – Usually, when I’m about to taste a product by Dave’s Gourmet, I take some preparations. I have 911 on speed dial, I keep a large glass of iced tea handy, and I make sure no one is around to hear me scream and see me cry. So I was surprised to find that after tasting Dave’s Gourmet Badlands Barbeque Sauce, no trips to ER would be necessary.
To be fair, the label indicates in two places that Badlands Barbeque is not as much about heat as it is about flavor. And there it definitely has plenty. The sauce consists of Dijon mustard, brown sugar, tomato sauce, jalapeño peppers, green chile peppers, onions, Worcestershire sauce, vinegar, garlic, salt, spices, and soy oil. For a Dave’s sauce, it’s only mildly spicy, but the peppers do make your tongue tingle for a good long time.
Mainly what you’ll notice and appreciate about this sauce, though, is the rich, delicious flavor. As it’s not particularly thick, it seems that it may be better as a dipping sauce or marinade than as a classic grill sauce for slathering onto pieces of animals resting on a grate over high heat. And in fact, it does work quite well as a sauce for cocktail franks, chicken nuggets, fried cheese sticks – even pretzel rods.
The presence of jalapeños and green chiles suggests Mexican cuisine, and believe me when I tell you that Dave’s Gourmet Badlands Barbeque Sauce will likely replace your current favorite taco sauce; a little splash will add some kick and a lot of flavor to salsas as well – or, if you’re like me, a good liberal pour over a burrito will be heaven on earth.
Which is not to say that you can’t grill with it, too. You’ll love this flavor on your favorite piece of animal, and maybe even be grateful to Dave that he decided not to burn the taste buds right off of your tongue so you can taste how good Dave’s Gourmet Badlands Barbeque Sauce is.
