Sweet and sour barbecue sauces have been popular in Chinese Cuisine for years but it has gained a lot of popularity in American Cuisine the past several years. It might seem difficult to make this type of sauce but it is actually easy. Here is a recipe that you will want to keep on hand for a quick and easy Sweet and Sour BBQ Sauce that you will find yourself reaching for time and time again.

Sweet and Sour BBQ Sauce Recipe

1/3 cup vinegar
3-4 tablespoons brown sugar (depending on how sweet you like the sauce)
1 1/2 tablespoons catsup
2 teaspoons cornstarch mixed with 4 teaspoons tap water
1 1/2 teaspoons soy sauce

In a glass measuring cup mix together the cornstarch with the tap water until it has dissolved. Set aside. In a medium saucepan combine together the vinegar, brown sugar, catsup and soy sauce and bring the entire mixture to a full boil stirring constantly so that it doesn’t scorch. Turn heat down to medium and stir in the cornstarch mixture. Continue to simmer over medium heat until the mixture has thickened, stirring often.

This is a delicious recipe to use with meatballs, pork or chicken. It is nice and thick so it will grab on your foods well and the flavor is delicious. You won’t go wrong when serving this as a side dipping sauce or as a coating on some yummy BBQ.

One of the best things around to slow cook on the grill and smoker are spare ribs. Pork spare ribs are so juicy and delicious when cooked the right way. Slow cooking them on the stove works great too and especially if the weather is terrible. Patience is a virtue when it comes to ribs.

Here is an easy recipe for a Spare Ribs BBQ Sauce Recipe that you can cook on the stove if you don’t want to smoke or grill them.

3 1/2 to 4 lbs. pork spareribs, uncooked
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1/2 cup to 3/4 cup of soy sauce
3 tablespoons brown sugar
1/4 cup dry sherry
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper

In a large cooking pot add the pork spareribs to the vegetable oil, turning often until all sides are lightly browned. You might have to cut down the ribs to get them to fit into your pot. Remove ribs and drain off the vegetable oil. Stir together in the pot the soy sauce, brown sugar, dry sherry, salt and ground black pepper. Add ribs back in and stir until ribs are well coated. Place lid on the cooking pot and cook them over low to medium low heat for several hours until very tender. You can cut your cooking time in half by simmering them over medium heat. Watch them closely because of the sugar and stir them occasionally to keep them from sticking to the bottom of the pot.

This is an easy recipe that will give you the delicious BBQ Sauce taste with the convenience of staying inside. Enjoy

When it comes to barbeque sauces, trying new tastes and flavors of sauce is the best part of barbequing. Die hard BBQ fans loves to see what taste mixes well with the different meats and enjoy tweaking different recipes to find the perfect blend of spices and flavors.

This homemade raspberry chipotle barbecue sauce is great on a few racks of your favorite style ribs or brush some chicken in the barbecue sauce and grill the chicken until done. If you like your barbecue sauce with more of a hot kick, you can increase the chipotle chili peppers according to your own taste buds.

Homemade Raspberry Chipotle Barbecue Sauce Recipe

2 bottles of your favorite “plain” barbecue sauce
1 small can of chipotle chili peppers
1 small onion, finely chopped
1 clove of garlic, finely minced
1/2 tablespoon crushed red pepper flakes
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 small jar of raspberry preserves (your favorite brand)

Place all of the above ingredients into a large blender container, place lid on top and process for 1 to 2 minutes or until well blended. Brush this sauce onto ribs and chicken and grill until your meat or poultry has been fully cooked.

This semi sweet, spicy and fruity sauce is so complex with all of the great flavors, you are going to be able to enjoy this on a variety of meats. It is easy to make and you will come back to this recipe time and time again.

Here is a nice twist on a delicious favorite BBQ sauce. This barbecue sauce is great on grilled chicken or try making some homemade chicken skewers or kabobs using this Peanut-Red Chile Barbecue Sauce Recipe. Once you have made the barbecue sauce you will want to baste your chicken in the sauce before grilling and during the grilling process. It can also be used as a chicken marinade and bake your chicken in your home oven until done.

Peanut-Red Chile BBQ Sauce Recipe

1 tablespoon canola oil (or use vegetable oil)
3″ long piece of fresh ginger, peeled and finely chopped into small pieces
1 1/2 cups of your favorite barbecue sauce (store bought or homemade)
2 cups low-sodium chicken stock/broth
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1/4 cup creamy smooth peanut butter (all natural peanut butter is best)
2 tablespoons chipotle in adobo puree
2 tablespoons smooth light honey
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground black pepper

In a large sauce pan over medium to medium-high heat, heat up the canola oil and then stir in the chopped ginger and simmer until the ginger is soft. Turn up the heat a little bit and stir in the barbecue sauce, chicken stock and cook until the mixture cooks down by 50%. Stir in the soy sauce, smooth peanut butter, chipotle puree and the smooth honey and cook over medium heat for 15 minutes or until it has thickened.

With the sweet and savory seasonings along with the peanut butter, you will have a taste sensation unlike any other sauce. You can make it spicy by adding in some additional red chile peppers or using a spicy barbeque sauce as your base.

There is a big difference in the flavor of apple cider vinegar based BBQ sauce from the South and a traditional sweet tomato based BBQ sauce from the Midwest. Many people have definite opinions on what Barbeque Sauce is better and tell you too. Both are very popular in kitchen to make, but what we see on the grocery shelves is different. That is why so many people today are turning to their old tried and true, time tested recipes for great BBQ sauces.

Apple cider is a great addition to a sauce to offset the sweetness a bit. Here is a great recipe for a cider based sauce that you will enjoy on your pork and other meats.

Apple Cider BBQ Sauce Recipe

Ingredients:
2 cups white vinegar
2 cups apple cider vinegar
1 1/2 cup water
1/8 cup hot sauce
1 tbsp. sugar
1 tbsp. red pepper flakes
2 tsp. salt

Mix everything together in a medium saucepan. Bring to a simmer over low heat and cook 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Some folks add in a small amount of Catsup for additional flavor. It will thicken it a bit. You can also add or reduce the water to get the flavor just right for you.

Hal’s Grubsteak was a restaurant located in Yuba City, California that has since closed. The restaurant was very well-known to locals as having the best BBQ sauce in town. During its hay-day it was the “in” place to grab a bite for lunch or dinner. Their BBQ Sauce is a bit different that your typical recipe and it still quite a coveted flavor.

Since the restaurant is closed, maybe someone has the exact recipe out there, but if you are looking for a copycat replacement recipe give ours a try.

Hal’s Grubsteak Copycat BBQ Sauce Recipe

1 large can of peaches with juice
2 cups ketchup
1 1/2 cups white vinegar
2/3 cup soy sauce
2 3/4 cups brown sugar
5 teaspoons ground ginger
4 teaspoons garlic salt

There is a lot of conversation regarding the proper way to make the Eastern Carolina BBQ sauce that has been around since …well, who knows. What is known is that people are very particular in how it is made and the proper way to use it on your meats. Most insist that it is not a BBQ sauce as in something that you would cook your meats with, but rather a meat flavor enhancer.
The meat should speak for itself.

However you enjoy cooking your meats, be it grilling, smoking or BBQing them, you can use a great tasting Eastern Carolina BBQ Sauce to flavor the meat. Here is one recipe that you can try that is similar to some but it is simple enough to change it to what you enjoy as well.

Eastern Carolina BBQ Sauce Recipe

1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
1/4 cup butter (not margarine)
3 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon plain honey
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon red pepper

In a large nonstick saucepan melt the butter over low heat. Stir in the lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, honey, salt and red pepper. Cook over low heat for 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in the apple cider vinegar. Let sauce cool in the pan and then pour it into an airtight container. Refrigerate for up to 3 days until ready to use.

You can use this sauce as a mop sauce or directly onto the meat. The honey in this recipe cuts a bit of the tartness of the vinegar so it is a pretty universal taste for many. Enjoy!

For game day, simple and easy is usually a requirement for the food selection of the day and when it comes to feeding a crowd, it can be a challenge to find easy to prepare appetizers. One great solution are meatballs that are slow cooked in bbq sauce and the easiest way to slow cook your meatballs is by using a crock pot. They come out so amazingly moist and tender, you will want to make this recipe over and over.

There are many recipes out there but today we thought we would share a few of the easy ones with you. You will need a bunch of prepared meatballs (around 20-24 medium to small sized meatballs).

Recipe 1:

10 to 11 oz. jar grape jelly (not jam)
12 oz. bottle chili sauce (your favorite brand)

Simmer and lightly brown your meatballs in a frying pan and then remove from heat and drain away the grease. In your crock pot combine together the grape jelly and the bottle of chili sauce. Place meatballs into the crock pot and place the lid on top. Set the temperature dial to the low setting and slow cook for 2 to 3 hours.

Recipe 2:

10 to 11 oz. jar grape jelly (not jam)
10 oz. bottle barbecue sauce (your favorite brand)

You will want to follow the same steps as outlined in recipe number one.

Serving Suggestion: Once the meatballs are done spoon them out of the crock pot using a slotted spoon and place them onto a plate or serving platter. Take wooden toothpicks and insert one into each meatball before serving them to your guests.

For a quick go to recipe for meatballs in BBQ Sauce, give these a try. Also if you are in a time crunch, you can simmer your meatballs in the sauces on the stove top. You want to make sure to keep it on low and to stir it often so the BBQ sauce does not burn. Keep a lid on so the moisture infuses your meatball too. Delicious!

Wet mop basting sauce is primarily used when making pulled pork barbecue sandwiches. Slow roasting and smoking of your favorite cut of pork roast will yield you wonderful flavor in your meat and you sandwiches over all.

Here is a basic recipe that you can follow and adjust for flavor as you like.

Wet Mop Basting Sauce Recipe

1 cup vinegar
1 cup apple cider vinegar
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 tablespoon red pepper flakes
1 tablespoon cracked black pepper
1 tablespoon salt

In a medium sized mixing bowl combine together all of the above ingredients in the order they are given in the recipe. You want to stir the mixture after each addition to ensure that all ingredients get blended together. Cover your bowl and refrigerate overnight to allow the flavors to infuse.

One great way to use a wet lop basting sauce is to purchase a small to medium pork roast at the local butcher and then slow cook it in your crock pot with the wet mop barbecue sauce. Place lid on top and set the temperature dial on low and slow cook for 6-7 hours or turn the temperature dial to high and slow cook for 4 hours.

You can also smoke the pork in your smoker and make sure to baste the meat at least every 45 minutes. The pork is done when it falls apart when using a fork. Use 2 forks to shred out your meat and its ready to go.

You can serve the BBQ pulled pork on your favorite rolls along with additional sauce on top. If you are looking for some side dishes to serve alongside your pulled pork sandwiches try steak fries, onion rings, corn on the cob, baked potatoes and/or cole slaw. If you love the Southern way of serving this, add the coleslaw to the sandwich and enjoy them together!

Recipes like this Wet Mop basting sauce recipe is great for game day or for any fun get together. It is easy and the food turns out delicious! Enjoy!

Sweet Bourbon BBQ Sauce has been around for decades and has quickly become a favorite sauce for millions of grillers around the world. This sauce is fantastic on chicken or ribs and makes a delicious sauce for your favorite meats.

You can easily make your own Sweet Bourbon BBQ Sauce at home when you follow the recipe given below.

3 lean strips of bacon
1/2 cup chopped onion
1/4 cup of bourbon
1/4 cup of vinegar (apple cider or red vinegar)
1/4 cup + 2 Tbsp. brown sugar
15 oz. can of tomato sauce
1 1/2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon each of salt and ground black pepper
1/2 cup peach preserves

In a large deep-walled frying pan, sauté up the bacon strips. Once they are done, stir in the chopped onion and sauté for 3 minutes. Drain out grease and crumble up the cooked bacon. Return bacon and onion back into the frying pan and pour in the bourbon and apple cider vinegar or red vinegar. Bring up to temperature and cook on high for 1 minute. Reduce the heat and pour in the brown sugar, tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, salt, ground black pepper and peach preserves.

Cook the mixture over medium heat for 7 minutes stirring often or until done. Let cool and store in an airtight container in your refrigerator for up to 3 days until you are ready to use it on your chicken or ribs.

When you are ready to use the sauce, marinate your chicken or ribs in it for a few hours before baking the meat in the oven, throwing it in the slow cooker or tossing them out onto your barbecue grill. You and your family is going to love this sauce!
