Oh to be responsible for the creation of witty hot sauce brand titles!  The label for Buhba’s Butt Blaster X-Hot Sauce immediately appealed to my immature sense of humor while also causing me to roll my eyes.  The colorful cartoon label shows a boy sitting in an outhouse, steam coming out of his ears and eyes bugging out of his head, presumably due to the hotness of the liquid and his body’s reaction to the spicy “temperature.”

A mustard sauce with a thick consistency (I immediately thought of a curry sauce’s texture), a few drops of Buhba’s Butt Blaster X-Hot Sauce immediately produces a fiery taste that shoots through the sinuses.  I first tested the sauce using some left over crust from a by-gone cheese pizza – not the best combination, but not terrible.  The taste of Buhba’s Butt Blaster X-Hot Sauce improved immensely the following day, when I chose to pair it with a mustard BBQ sauce and let some chicken wings soak in the mixture for a few hours…a much more appropriate way to test this South Carolina style extreme hot sauce.

Buhba’s Butt Blaster recipe contains mustard, apple cider vinegar, white vinegar, Habanero peppers, chile extract, sugar & spices.  A different combination for sure; the apple cider vinegar cuts nicely with the mustard for a full-bodied finish; the apple cider vinegar also makes the overall taste less intrusive than in other sauces.  Once the product heats up a bit (like when it is used as part of a marinade for meats on the grill) the mustard flavor is slightly more dominant than it was when cold or served at room temperature.

I would describe this sauce as warm, but not hot enough to require any real recovery time or an immediate rush to the family outhouse.  I would rate the overall taste a 3.5.  Straight up, if you don’t enjoy hearty mustard sauce, you are not going to love Buhba’s Butt Blaster X-Hot Sauce.  And it is also not the best mustard sauce out there to choose from.  But if you were looking to try something new, and for a spicy sauce of the mustard variety with a little kick, I’d recommend picking up some chicken and a bottle of Buhba’s Butt Blaster X-Hot Sauce.
