Apple Maple BBQ Sauce Recipe

Apple and maple have long been great flavors when combined.  No one knows who would be brave enough to taste the sap from a tree and then tap it as well as realize the sap could be refined into a great maple syrup that we have loved for hundreds of years. Man is very resourceful at times.  But regardless of who found the syrup and then combined it with apples, we have been enjoying that flavor combination for years.

When it comes to meat, the apple maple combination is just as delicious.  Who would have thought to bring this flavor combo’s together, but they work and they work well!  For a sweet and spicy hot BBQ sauce that will bring a load of flavor to your taste buds, give this awesome sauce a try!

Apple Maple BBQ Sauce Recipe

2 teaspoons olive oil
1/8 cup onion, finely chopped
1/2 to 3/4 cup catsup
1/2 cup low-fat apple juice
1/4 cup maple syrup
3/4 cup cider vinegar
1 1/2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 teaspoon Tabasco sauce
2 cloves garlic, finely minced

In a large saucepan heat the olive oil until it’s hot. Stir in the finely chopped onion and saute for 3-4 minutes or until onion has caramelized. Stir in the rest of the ingredients in the order they are given in the recipe, stirring after each addition. Reduce heat to medium and simmer the sauce over medium heat for 12-15 minutes or until done. Your new sauce is ready to use!
